Rattray Motor Spares has been trading in the South West Glasgow area since 1958.
In this series of stories we relates some of the
true and humourous events that have occurred over the years.
In recent years motorists have become careless regarding winter checks. The
combination of milder winters and all year round anti-freeze(coolant) has made
them complacent. So during the winter of 1997, when the temperatures in the
Glasgow area dropped to -30 C one night, our trade counter was beseiged by
stranded motorists, the next morning, with frozen engine blocks. Although we
sympathise with them we can't but wonder at their responses to this crisis. One
customer with a frozen block, but who could not afford to buy sufficient
anti-freeze , bought a 250ml size of screen wash additive at .99p, hoping that
it would thaw out his engine, because it said
"WITH ANTI-FREEZE
PROPERTIES"
on the bottle.
