NO3

Rattray Motor Spares has been trading in the South West Glasgow area since 1958. In this series of stories we relates some of the true and humourous events that have occurred over the years.

Car manufacturers give us a great source of amusement due to the names given to car models. Sometimes the Glasgow accent does not lend itself easily to some car names. How about the current Citroen Xsara or the Mazda Xedos. The model that gave greatest joy over the years was the Singer Chamois. Can you imagine the Glasgow tongue asking that name? We had a regular customer in the late sixties and early seventies who owned a Chamois, but he could not pronounce it, so he always sent his 10-year-old son in for parts. He always told us his father's car was a "Singer Windolene", because his father told him the name sounded like a window cleaner. Another customer always called his car a Ford Angela. Maybe that's why he always referred to giving her a good service.
