Some motorists should not be allowed out alone. They are scary at times. A customer when buying replacement wiper blades for his Renault Megane, asked if we could show him how to fit them. As we find it is quicker to go out and just fit them rather than try to explain, our junior member of staff, Ryan, was delegated to fit the wipers for the customer. Before he went to the car, I warned him to be careful, as the Renault has an odd fitting. "Don't worry," said the customer "I'll make sure he does it right." The customer took Ryan out to his car and watched while Ryan changed the blades. As a precaution I watched from our door to make sure the lad made no mistakes. He fitted them in seconds with no trouble (clever lad Ryan!). Our customer came back into the shop to collect other goods he had bought, thanked us for the help then left. Five minutes later he came back in. "The boy fitted those wiper blades to the wrong car!" he said. I pointed out that I had watch him take Ryan to the car and he watched while the lad changed the blades. "I know," he said "but that was not my car. My car is the same type and colour as that one but my car is fifty yards along the street." He wanted us to swap the blades again, the only problem was Ryan had just trashed the replaced blades so we couldn't replace them to the other car. The customer accepted that it was his blame and repurchased a second set of blades. We discounted and fitted the second set. His parting remark was the cruncher. "I should have known it was the wrong car, bacause I had left my wife and the dog in the car and I wondered were they were." So, try to imagine the other Megane driver wondering how his worn wiper blades had suddenly improved.
