A LONG WAY FOR A WARRANTY CLAIM.
In recent years, since the advent of the Internet, our business has been fortunate to secure quite a bit of international sales for car parts. In the ten years since building our web site sales volumes have risen. Over this time we have had very few, if any, genuine warranty claims regarding product quality or fitment.
Recently we had a customer call into our Glasgow trade counter with faulty goods.
Although the gentleman is from Glasgow he spends quite a bit of his time in Spain. In June 2011 he had purchased a pair of wiper blades for a Peugeot he has in Spain. From us because we were cheaper than in Spain.
He returned the wipers in Oct 2011 stating, “not fit for purpose” as both blades had no fitting and one was too short.
I explained that if his car were LH drive spec then the blades would be different than for RH drive spec.
He accepted that LH & RH spec may be the reason for different lengths but there are definitely not any fittings in either box. I gently explained that the fittings often jam at the bottom of the box. I then shook the fittings from both boxes.
Boy, was he red faced. All the way from Spain for an unfounded warranty claim.
In fairness we often have customers returning to complain there is no fittings in the box. But this is the furthest anyone has ever travelled on a wasted journey
We wondered how he explained to airport security and customs why he was carrying two wiper blades in his hand luggage. Any suggestions?
